The power of Barth’s reaction to liberalism came in part from the fact that it arose from within the very bosom of liberalism itself. Furthermore, the time for it was ripe. It was not simply the nature of Barth’s reaction that gave it wide hearing. The fact that Barth’s experiences were also those of many other pastors and theologians provided immediate interest in what he said and wrote.
